McMurry Volleyball falls in five-set thriller
The McMurry University volleyball team found itself on the short end of a grueling, five-set match as they fell 3-2 to The University of Texas – Permian Basin on Thursday night in Kimbrell Arena.
Four of the five matches between the War Hawks and Falcons we decided by just two points. UTPB took set one by a score of 28-26 before the War Hawks took set two by a score of 32-30.
Following a brief intermission, UTPB came right back to take set three 26-24 and the War Hawks countered with a 25-15 victory in set four to send the game to the fifth and final set, which UTPB would win 15-13, handing the War Hawks their second-consecutive home defeat.
Despite the loss, there were many high-points for the War Hawks in the game, including an 18-kill/one-error performance by M.J. Vickers. Peyton Evans had arguably the best overall game of the day as she totaled nine kills, 48 assists, 21 digs, and seven service aces. Kasi Conners added nine kills and Kelsey Harkins totaled eight for the contest.
As a team, the War Hawks totaled 16 blocks, including six assisted blocks by each Conners and Jessica Cory. Ayssa Garcia joined Evans with 21 digs in the loss.
McMurry will be back in action on Thursday, October 11 when they host Wayland Baptist. The contest at Kimbrell Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
