Moisture from hail and sleet
A strong cold front blow in Tuesday evening and brought wind gusts to 40 mph and a 60 degree temperature drop over 12 hours.
The front also helped create thunderstorms that brought needed rainfall with some hail mixed in as strong thunderstorms moved through.
As the precipitation was winding down, sleet fell between 8 AM and 9 AM Wednesday morning in Abilene. Since it was 93 degrees the day before, the roadways stayed clear of ice.
