Runners race to raise money for Hope Haven
Hundreds ran in the St. Patty's Day race Saturday morning in Red Bud Park.
The 8K race benefits "Hope Haven," a local organization in Abilene. Hope Haven serves the homeless in through transitional housing programs. They also provide food, transportation, childcare and life skills training camps at no cost.
The race is one of many ways Hope Haven gets the word out about their services and raises money for their programs.
"It's great to have so much community support," said Executive Director Alana Jeter. "Yesterday, we had an early packet pickup at our office and so many people that were doing the race weren't that familiar with Hope Haven and our mission. They had the opportunity to learn more about it, see our residence, see our building and see what we're doing for the Abilene community."
Jeter also said Hope Haven relies completely on donations and grants, to operate and serve the community.
