An 87-year-old Abilene woman has died at a Lubbock hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an accident Monday at the intersection of North 10th and Plum streets.
Phyllis S. Ricketts was pronounced dead at about 4 a.m. Tuesday at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
The accident occurred about 3:26 p.m. Monday.
According to a news release, Ricketts was driving a tan 2003 Buick Century south in the 1000 block of Plum Street while John F. Strople, 37, of Abilene, was driving a silver 2005 Dodge Ram west in the 600 block of North 10th Street.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed Ricketts failed to yield right of way at a stop sign, resulting in Strople’s vehicle colliding with the driver’s side of Ricketts’ Buick.
No other occupants were in either vehicle, police said.
The investigation into the collision is continuing.
Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the case, police said.
