The public got its first look at the production version of the all-new Acura TLX sedan Wednesday at the New York Auto Show.
The car was previewed earlier this year in a thinly disguised concept car. The model shown in New York is the version that will actually be available in Acura dealerships later this year.
The car replaces both the TL and TSX sedans in Acura's lineup. It's slotted between the Honda Civic-based ILX and the larger RLX.
Overall, the TLX is a few inches shorter than the previous TL, but the wheelbase is the same to keep the interior spacious.
Ride quality and quietness are important to Acura, which is why the TLX uses lots of high-strength steel, aluminum and magnesium to minimize weight while still maintaining a strong body. Acura's even using a special acoustic spray foam in key areas of the car to keep road and wind noise down.
Handling the sport sedan is done through either an all-wheel steering system that turns both the front and rear wheels, or an all-wheel drive system that sends power to the wheels that need it most. Both systems are designed to keep the car firmly planted, whether navigating city streets, or winding down a twisty road.
Cameras and a radar system in the car will help alert the driver - and even stop the car - if it senses that it's leaving the road. Those sensors are also used for other safety features like adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance.
Engine choices in the new car include a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and a 3.5-liter V-6. Four-cylinder models come with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the six-cylinder models have a nine-speed automatic.

Prices for the new TLX will be announced later this year, just before the car goes on sale to the public.
