A Colorado man is arrested on charges of drunken horseback riding during what he claims is a 600-mile trek to Utah for a wedding.

Witnesses told University of Colorado police they saw the man hit his horse and wander in and out of traffic near the school Monday afternoon, according to The Daily Camera.

Patrick Neal Schumacher of Colorado Springs faces several charges, including animal cruelty, prohibited use of weapons and riding under the influence of alcohol.

He had a small pug named Bufford in his backpack, as well as beer cans and a black-powder pistol in his saddlebag, police told The Daily Camera.

Schumacher told officers he was headed to his brother's wedding in Bryce, Utah.

He said he had to make the journey on horse because he had lost his driver's license, according to The Associated Press.
