A homeless man desperate for free health care services robbed a bank of one dollar with the intention of getting arrested and going to jail.
According to CBS Seattle, Timothy Dean Alsip of Portland, Ore. walked into a Bank of America branch outside Portland, Ore, and handed a note to the teller saying, 'This is a hold up. Give me a dollar.' Rather than flee with the dollar, Alsip reportedly took a seat in the lobby and quietly waited for police to arrest him.
Alsip was charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree theft, but the robbery charge was dismissed. Alsip remains in jail, having failed to pay a $40,000 bail on the theft charge. According to The Oregonian, Alsip, a 50-year-old man with no previous criminal record, told officers he had robbed the bank in order to receive medical care in jail.
