The third annual "Outlaws and Legends" Music Fest kicks off Friday, this time in a brand new location.
Crews spent time Thursday putting finishing touches on what promoters have labeled the biggest one-stage, one-day event in Texas. It will be held on grounds located off of Interstate 20 on North Clack Street. Preparations for the event have taken six months.
"Luckily we've got so much really good help and people that support the fest that come in to make it happen," said Mark Powell, musician and owner of The Back Porch of Texas.
More than 3,000 tickets have been sold for this year's concert, but Powell said the area is ready for the crowd. Tickets are $65 at the gate.
"We've got plenty of parking, we've got plenty of event space and we've worked as hard and diligently as we can to make it as sound and planned and thought out as possible," said Powell.
Signs will be up to direct traffic into the area, and Department of Public Safety officers will be on hand.
General parking, RV parking and VIP parking will all be separate.
Powell said it's a great event for the city.
"The objective of the fest is to bring tourists to Abilene and that's how people need to perceive it. If we get a volume of people your business succeeds, my business succeeds and everybody else's business succeeds," Powell said.
Since the concert is being held in a big open field, there is no capacity limit.
"We just want them to come here and have a great time," Powell said.
R.V. and tailgate parking is from noon until 2 p.m. Friday, March 22.
At that time the gates will open for general admission.
Music will begin at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Acts performing Friday will include Powell, Ryan Tyndell, Jamie Richards, Jeff Hyde, Matt Martindale, Matt Nolen, Chuck Allen Floyd, Zach Edwards, Kevin Deal, Tessy Lou Williams, Brenda Kay, Zane Williams, No Dry County, Stan Crawford, Nick Swinford and John Caldwell.
While the gates will reopen at 8 a.m Saturday, the music will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Acts performing Saturday will include country music great Merle Haggard, Randy Rogers Band, Mark Powell and Lariat, Lee Roy Parnell, Jamie Richards, Gary P. Nunn, Cody Johnson, Six Market Blvd, Thom Shepherd, James Lann, George Ducas, Two Tons of Steel, Jerrod Medulla, Ali Dee, Britt Hoffman, Bracken Hale, Callahan Divide, and Morgan Reatherford.
All concertgoers must exit the area by noon on Sunday.
