2 firefighters hurt in suburban Dallas
(AP) - Two suburban Dallas firefighters are recovering from injuries suffered while battling a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex.
Witnesses said the blaze at a three-story complex in Irving near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport broke out Saturday evening during a thunderstorm. They reported hearing a boom and then seeing fire. The roof was already ablaze when firefighters began arriving.
Assistant Fire Chief Rusty Wilson says it appears a rail collapsed as firefighters were coming down some stairs. One was hurt in the fall. The second was burned.
Their names have not been released. They were taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
Twenty-four apartments were destroyed.
