BASTROP, Texas (AP) -

Two Central Texas law enforcement officers have been demoted and suspended after training records were altered following a fatal shooting by a deputy.

The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday announced Lt. Joey Dzienowski was demoted to patrol deputy and suspended for 240 hours.

Sheriff Terry Pickering said Sgt. David Repka was demoted to patrol deputy and suspended for 32 hours.
A review found field training records for Deputy Daniel Willis were modified after he fatally shot Yvette Smith on Feb. 16. Deputies had responded to a domestic disturbance call.

Pickering said he does not believe the officers acted maliciously but knew the training documents for Willis were not up to date and wanted to make sure they were completed accurately.

Texas Rangers are helping investigate.
