Abilene investigators have identified four juveniles as possible suspects in Friday's fire at a former wood pallet company on Ruidosa Avenue, fire officials say.
The blaze, which involved massive flames and resulted in minor injuries to a fireman’s face, occurred just before 10 p.m. Friday near Abilene Bowling Lanes and the old Sam’s Club.
No information has been provided as to the names and ages of the juveniles potentially involved.
According to an Abilene Fire Department news release, the investigation is ongoing.
“Information will be released as it becomes available,” the release said.
It took Abilene firefighters, with much-needed assistance from the Texas Forest Service, more than two hours to get the blaze under control.
According to the fire department, the fire started shortly before 10 p.m. Friday and was finally under control around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
Customers of the bowling alley had to be evacuated, as the Texas Forest Service used a bulldozer to get to the fire.
Bystanders in the old Sam's Club parking lot were also asked to leave in fear that the fire would reach tankers that were close by. The contents in the tankers weren't known.
A storage shed caught fire – and was lost in the fire – as the flames spread throughout the field.
In addition to a Texas Forest Service bulldozer, 10 pieces of AFD equipment responded to the scene.
