ABILENE, TX -

To ease overcrowding in the fifth and sixth grades, a new middle school is being built for the Wylie School District.

"We made the decision that we would have two trade level campuses across the district except for in the high school," said Wylie ISD Superintendent Joey Light.

Seventh and eighth graders will remain in the old building, which just steps away from the new fifth and sixth grade campus.

"We're finishing up the masonry. We're going in to do the finishes right now. We're getting the sheet rock on the wall and we'll go right in to take the bed, texturing and painting," said Light.

The school will showcase some cool additions for students to enjoy.

"We're really excited about having a stage at this campus," Light said.  "Also we're gonna have a top notch gym, not just for our PE students in fifth and sixth grade, but then an extra facility for competition if we need it.

Although, it's not without its challenges. Light told us their plan to handle the increase in traffic.

"Next year we'll have two grade levels with our fifth and sixth grade get picked up and clear the parking lot," said Light. "Then well have the seventh and eighth grade students pick up after that."

The building is 50 percent done and scheduled to open in March. Overall, it's on pace to open its doors on time.
