ABILENE, Texas -

Abilene police said a drunk driver is to blame for a New Year's Eve accident that left a car on its side at the intersection of Buffalo Gap and Clack.

According to police, 50-year-old Stuart Miller was leaving a southside bar when he sideswiped another vehicle, leaving it on its side, and fled the scene.

He only made it about a block before his car broke down and police caught up with him.

"My message is pretty clear for 2013," Chief of Abilene Police Stan Standridge said at the scene. "Behavior will change in Abilene. We can not afford the cost of DUIs."

Miller is charged with DWI with an accident and bonded out of the Taylor County Jail Tuesday.

Nobody was injured in the accident.

"We're fortunate no body died tonight as a result of this accident, but collectively we've got to change the culture in Abilene," Standridge said. "So don't drink and drive, stay alive, and make it a better 2013."
