ABILENE, Texas -

It's a competition where whoever loses the most, actually wins.

The Healthy Woman Lose to Win challenge is in its second year and starts this Thursday, Jan. 17 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.

There is no fee to enter.

Contestants will receive four free nutritional sessions, a free body fat analysis (before and after) and special discounted rates for the Abilene Regional Medical Center Fitness Facility.

During the nutritional sessions, contestants will learn about proper nutrition, exercise tips, supplements and accountability.

The first-place winner of the challenge will receive a $500 check presented by the West Texas Rehabilitation Center and the PaceSetters Program.

Jessica Newman, who signed up for the challenge, said the money was a good motivator.

"I have trouble motivating myself to lose weight, so what better motivation than $500?," Newman said.

The winner of the challenge will be announced at the 5th Healthy Woman Anniversary event on April 18 at the Paramount Theatre.

Contestants will be judged on percentage of weight lost. Final weigh-ins will be held April 11 at the Abilene Regional Medical Center Women's Center.

Amanda Maikranz, coordinator of the Healthy Woman program, said potential contestants shouldn't feel intimidated.

"It's a very warm and inviting atmosphere," Maikranz said. "I think that people can be made to feel comfortable. We try to be very discrete with the weigh ins," she said.
