Abilene school trustees discuss school boundaries and Davidson vacancy
The first Abilene ISD agenda review meeting of the year concluded with discussions about changing elementary school boundaries and filling an empty seat on the school board.
Associate Superintendent for Operations Scott McLean told the board one reason for the modifications is to balance capacity at all campuses.
Another major decision that will be made in the next few months is how to replace former board member Dr. Shane Davidson. At the end of 2012 he announced his departure after only six months of service, and his acceptance of a position as Vice President of Enrollment at the University of Evansville.
"We did receive his letter of resignation over the holidays and it was effective as of today," said AISD School Board President Stan Lambert. "Starting today we basically have a vacancy on the board and we'll begin discussing what our next steps are going to be as far as filling that vacancy in the next couple of meetings.
The board can decide to fill Dr. Davidson's seat through an appointment or special election most likely during the city election in May.
