BROWNWOOD, Texas -

The Brown County Museum of History's annex building has several roof leaks, destroying some of the exhibits.

Monday, the museum board asked the Brown County Commissioners for funds to help replace the roof.

$46,000 is needed, nearly $8,500 has been raised, and the board asked the commissioners for $10,000 Monday.

"We've got to keep it alive, that's not a choice. We cannot forget that museum, guys," said Putter Jarvis, museum advocate.

Jarvis and President of the Board Beverly Norris addressed the commissioners.

"We have got to keep this thing in memory of the grandparents and great-grandparents," said Jarvis.

The museum's annex building has several roof leaks, allowing rain to pour inside, ruining artifacts.

Brown County Judge Ray West and the commissioners searched the courthouse's general budget to see where funds can be taken to help the museum.

Jarvis was pleased with the commissioner's willingness to help.

"I think they're going to do what we ask, and I think they're going to be very diligent to make sure that museum is taken care of," said Jarvis.

He said a museum is an important part of a town, reminding the community of it's roots.

"I don't want these children to think they're grandparents and great-grandparents had cell phones and video games," said Jarvis.

The commissioners will re-agenda the item to determine how much funding can be contributed.

Once the museum board reaches $30,000, they can apply for a grant to cover the remaining $16,000.

To donate, or help the museum replace the annex building roof, contact Beverly Norris on her cell phone, 325-647-7879, or museum manager Nick Seybert at  the museum at 325-641-1926.
