BROWNWOOD, Texas -

What would you do if you found $800 in cash on the ground?

Shirley Brown, 53, of Brownwood, did what may have been a difficult but honest deed. She turned the money over to police.

"The police department's not necessarily a lost and found, but at the same time we have the best resources to find the right owner. It's a very good, warm feeling to know that we have that many caring people in the community," Assistant Police Chief James Fuller said.

Brown found the $800 inside of a white bank envelope on the ground while she was removing laundry from a clothes line outside one of the Dublin Park Homes Apartments.

Two Park Homes residents have slightly different views on what they would do if they were to find $800 in their backyards.

"Well, I'd see if I could find who is belonged to. If I couldn't then I'd donate part of it to cancer center and to their paralyzed veterans, and to the heart association. I wouldn't keep any for myself," Dorothy Cooper said.

"I would probably stick it in my pocket, because if I asked who lost some money, everybody would say I lost it. If there's no name on it, it would be mine," Carolyn Whittle said.

The money hasn't yet been returned to its rightful owner.
