Country music community reacts to death of country music star Mindy McCready
Police said Mindy McCready committed suicide Sunday afternoon after shooting her deceased boyfriends dog. The 37-year-old country singer and mother of two died Sunday from what police said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
McCready was found on her front porch yesterday afternoon, the same place her boyfriend was found last month after he allegedly committed suicide.
The singer struggled publicly with drugs, alcohol and depression.
A few years ago she joined the reality t-v show "Celebrity Rehab" where she was treated for addiction by Dr. Drew Pinsky. He says since then she has been struggling, but refused to go back to treatment.
"Her biggest fear was the stigma of doing so and what people would think if she god forbid took care of herself. This to me is the most distressing part of the story, she is a lovely woman, we have lost her and it didn't have to go down like that," said Pinsky.
McCready first caught the ear of country music listeners when she released the album “10,000 Angels” in 1996.
"I loved her song and the video for “10,000 Angels,” now I think there are 10,001 angels," said KBCY DJ JB cloud.
McCready had 14 songs and 6 albums on the billboard country charts. Her "friends in music" are planning to organize a memorial for her in Nashville.
