A petition against boundary changes for Dyess Elementary has at least 30 signatures.
Parent Sara Wauer discussed the petition at Tuesday's Abilene ISD boundary hearing at Dyess Elementary. The petition had 30 signatures before the beginning of the meeting.
It is the third hearing by AISD to answer questions about rezoning five elementary schools. The changes impact about 500 children at Reagan, Jackson, Ward, Dyess, and Bassetti elementary schools.
Wauer said it is important for elementary-age children to have stability, especially for children in military families.
"You know, we go through so many changes every day, month, you know, year, that a little bit of normalcy is satisfying and kind of just relaxing for us because we don't have to worry 'Are our kids going to make it to school today? Are they going to have busing available?'" Wauer said.
The next public hearing is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Bassetti Elementary. The school board could vote on the changes as early as Feb. 11.
