ABILENE, TX -

A controversial issue was decided in the AISD board meeting Monday night.

The board voted five to one to fill their empty seat through an appointment instead of a special election.

Dr. Shane Davidson stepped down from the board when he accepted a job in another state in December. His resignation was made official in January.

Three citizens asked for this item to be placed on the open agenda session rather than be discussed in closed session.

Abilene resident Bill Enriquez was not happy with the board's decision.

"I just think we made a bad decision as a group," said Enriquez. "I think the decision should have been made to have a special election that way the public has the person that they want, the criteria that they want."

Board member Randy Piersall voted against the motions for appointment.
