BROWNWOOD, Texas -

Fire destroyed a Brownwood home early Friday morning.

Brownwood firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 block of First Street just before 2 a.m. Friday.

The people who lived there believe it was deliberately started by a Molotov cocktail that was thrown into a kitchen window.

Nine people lived in the home, only six were inside when the fire started.

All six people made it out okay.

Fire Marshal Buddy Preston is still investigating the cause of the fire. He has not found any evidence that a fire bomb was thrown through the kitchen window causing the fire; however, the family still strongly believes foul play was involved.

"The electricity was turned off yesterday, and was going to be turned on this morning. I heard glass break, and then I heard my daughter scream," said homeowner Kathy Ferguson.

"He (brother) ran downstairs and there was a broken head of a cocktail bomb," said Andrew Ferguson, who also lived in the home.

"I feel that when they heard glass break, is when the window blew out itself," said Preston.

However, there is still a lot of debris to go through.

"When you have a two story house and the second floor falls in on the first floor, that leaves a lot of digging to do," said Preston.

The house was over 100 years old, and was in the Ferguson family for at least 30 years.

Now the family that once lived there, is trying to salvage any memory they can from the home.

A Bible was found inside the burnt home, every page still in tact.

The family is staying at a hotel in Brownwood, but they have already began the search for a new place to call home.
