ABILENE, Texas -

It was a packed house at the Abilene Civic Center Tuesday night. Former First Lady Laura Bush was was one of them. She was the featured guest speaker at the annual Global Samaritan Resources benefit dinner.

The non-profit, founded in Abilene 1999, provides aid to third world countries, a cause dear to Mrs. Bush's heart.

An active humanitarian, Laura Bush, has traveled to more than 76 countries to champion issues in the fields of education, health care, and human rights.

Global Samaritan workers say they had at least a thousand people in attendance.
