Funeral arrangements for passenger in fatal Abilene crash
Funeral arrangements have been made for the passenger who jumped out of a truck that crashed through an Abilene building Thursday afternoon.
Garcia was the front seat passenger in a 1976 Chevy pickup truck that ran through the red light on Old Anson Road and crashed through the Ambler Plaza building on Ambler Avenue. The cause of the crash is under investigation; however, police said Garcia got out of the truck right before the crash, but his body hit the building.
The driver, 29-year-old Jeffrey Smith Jr., and another passenger, 18-year-old Devante Hunter, were hospitalized and discharged Thursday. Police do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash and, as of Friday, criminal charges have not been filed against the driver.
Visitation for 31-year-old Oscar Garcia is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home, located at 5750 U.S. 277.
The funeral is set for Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 1333 North 3rd Street. Garcia will be buried at the Abilene Municipal Cemetery.
