Heavy late September rains bring Abilene totals to four times the monthly average

ABILENE, Texas -

A slow-moving storm system brought impressive rainfall totals to West Texas to end the month of September.

During September, 8.48" of rain fell at Abilene Regional Airport -- nearly four times the monthly average of 2.24".

That brought Abilene from a rainfall deficit for the year to about three inches ahead for the year.

So far in 2012 22.14" of rain has fallen in Abilene.

Scattered storms began to drop rain on Thursday across the Big Country.

Heavy rain followed on Friday and Saturday that caused some flash flooding and boosted area lake levels.
