BROWNWOOD, Texas -

Christmas can be the most exciting time of the year for kids, and officials at the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex in Brownwood want Christmas to be memorable for them too.

The Ron Jackson State School is currently home to 107 girls.

Many of them are trying to get their lives back on track. They're not used to Christmas presents, or even a normal Christmas.

"Everything I want, I think I already have," said Kadeziah, currently at Ron Jackson.

Kadeziah is currently from Fort Worth and is spending her second Christmas at the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex, and is thankful for the community's involvement.

"I am very appreciative of why they come, and I feel like it's very generous for them to take time off their holiday to come, and especially when we're incarcerated, it makes me feel like I'm not alone," said Kadeziah.

Volunteers like Jan Cate and President of the Community Resource Council Edda Ratliff help make Christmas presents a reality for the girls.

"Jan and I are probably two of the biggest beggars, the biggest, best beggars in Brownwood, and we know who will give, and they don't mind giving if they know what it's for," said Ratliff.

"I think too, there's a lot of people in the community who would be willing to do it, but really don't get the message, and so this is a really good opportunity to be able to include them in this as well," said Cate.

The Salvation Army based in Dallas also gave gifts for the first time this year to all six juvenile facilities in Texas.

The girls at Ron Jackson will be celebrating Christmas on Sunday, December 23 this year.

Cash donations are appreciated because the gifts must be approved by the facility.

To make a donation, call Barbara McBride at Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex at 325-641-4241.
