Local and state officials teamed up in Abilene Thursday for a winter storm drill.
They were hosted by the West Central Texas Council of Governments to test mobile communications equipment, emergency rescues and setting up shelters.
The Department of Public Safety brought in its regional communications trailers for the drill.
In 2010, areas across the Big Country and the state saw heavy snow and ice.
"As a result of our last experiences, we decided to do some mitigation in this exercise in order to prepare better and to respond more quickly in the event that the disaster happens again," Tom Mann with West Central Texas Council of Governments said.
