Longtime United Way of Abilene leader Dixie Bassett will retire during 2013.
Geoff Haney, board chairman of the Abilene’s United Way, made the announcement Thursday. Plans are to begin the search for Bassett’s replacement as president/CEO immediately.
Bassett began with the United Way of Abilene in 1989 as campaign director and then took over as the first woman president/CEO of Abilene’s United Way three years later.
“These years have been wonderful for me to learn so much about our community and to work with many organizations, groups, and governmental agencies to make a difference,” Bassett said. “It has been a rewarding experience to help provide life changing opportunities for children and adults in our community. During the next few months, I look forward to meeting with a number of people to promote continued community impact for future years."
“Dixie has tremendous drive to help people, and her dedicated leadership over several decades has been truly inspirational. We are sad to lose her talent but happy for her to enjoy retirement. We look forward to finding the right person to lead the United Way’s continued impact for many years to come,” Haney said.
The Search Committee will accept resumes from March 2 through April 2. The job description and requirements will be available on the United Way of Abilene website, www.unitedwayabilene.org by March 1.
