ABILENE, Texas -

Area residents started spring by heading out to enjoy the sunshine.

Officially, spring began at 6:02 a.m. on March 20. Also known as the Vernal Equinox, there will be approximately the same amount of daylight as darkness. The number of daylight hours will also begin to increase for the next few months.

People headed out in droves to enjoy the day, doing everything from feeding the ducks, to hitting up the dog park, to catching some air at the skate park.

Some even took their lunches to Red Bud Park. "It's just a nice day, we thought we'd eat lunch out here to to enjoy the prairie dogs and the scenery and the environment" says Sidney Isaacs.

When it comes to keeping the nice weather around, some people are turning to a higher power. "I'm praying for it actually" says Aerika Sullivan during her workout at the park.
