PAINT CREEK, Texas -

Amber Conn, 14, was on her way to school with five others on Monday. Her life was taken after an accident on FM 618 near Farm Road 600 in Haskell County.

Six people, including Conn, were inside the vehicle that crashed. Her funeral was held Wednesday in Stamford.

Paint Creek ISD. Superintendent Don Ballard said hundreds of people in the community attended the funeral.

"It's very tough," Ballard said. "It's tough for all of us."

In Conn's honor junior high basketball games were canceled this week and for the rest of the year.

Ballard said it has been difficult for students and faculty. At Paint Creek, the student body is small, just 164 students.

"So yeah, it's hard and of course as small as our school is Amber was taught by nearly every teacher here," Ballard said.

Brian Burgess was one of those teachers. He taught Amber's social studies class.

"It's a tragic loss for our school for that class and for her family," Burgess said. "She was just a sweet little girl. Always smiling. Always happy."

Burgess said he hopes to help the kids eventually return to normalcy and help them move forward.

Two other crash victims are at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. As of Wednesday Zander Elias, 4, was upgraded to good condition, according to the hospital.

Danica Elias, 9, is in fair condition. The crash is still under investigation by the Department of Public Safety.

DPS said no charges have been filed.
