Police: Man, 22, jailed after nearly running over Abilene officer

An Abilene man is in jail for allegedly trying to run over a police officer early Friday morning.
Zachery Angel Valero, 22, was arrested for aggravated assault against a peace officer.
Here’s how it was described by Abilene Police Department spokesman George Spindler:
At about 12:05 a.m. Friday, while patrolling on the premises of an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Buffalo Gap Road, Officer Brad Hambright observed a disturbance in a parking lot and observed a male subject holding a bat. Officer Hambright attempted to contact the male subject in the 2500 block of South 25th Street, but the subject entered a vehicle that drove up next to the subject. The vehicle then turned around and parked in the road. As Officer Hambright approached the vehicle to contact the driver, the driver initially placed the vehicle into reverse. After making eye contact with the driver, the driver then placed the car into drive and accelerated towards Officer Hambright, forcing Officer Hambright to jump out of the vehicle’s path to avoid being struck. The driver continued to drive away and fled the area. The vehicle was stopped by responding officers in the 2100 block of Marshall Street. The driver was placed into custody. A records check revealed the driver had one outstanding municipal . The driver was arrested for his warrant and for two felony offenses: Aggravated Assault Against a Peace Officer and Evading.
