ABILENE, Texas -

The Abilene Police Department is preparing for increased traffic around Shotwell Stadium because of the Abilene High-Cooper football game.

APD expects a crowd of 13,000 people for the Crosstown Showdown.

To relieve the anticipated traffic congestion after the game, APD is implenting special traffic control adjustments. The traffic flow around Shotwell Stadium will change during the 4th quarter of the game.

Vehicles traveling on E. South 11th Street will not be permitted to enter Expo Drive during this period of time due to the outflow of traffic at that intersection.

For people driving back to Shotwell to pick up friends or family, they are asked to enter the northwest entrance to the stadium area that leads to the west side of the stadium. This entrance is just west of Expo Drive and is accessible on E. South 11th's frontage road. If you are planning to pick someone up at Shotwell, please tell them to meet you on the west access road by the stadium.

Abilene Police officers will be directing traffic.

"We're asking everyone to be super safe and cautious and to be watching our for traffic officers directing traffic," APD spokesman George Spindler said.

APD hopes that traffic enforcement at the game will keep everyone safe, and prevent the likelihood of pedestrian involved vehicle collisions.
