Snow possible Christmas Day

winter weather

Our weather will be changing in a hurry.  Monday's mild temperatures will be replaced by very cold, arctic air Christmas Day.  Look for high temperatures in the 30s Christmas morning, but readings should fall into the upper 20s by late afternoon.

This cold air will be ushered in on strong north winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 45 mph.  A Wind Advisory is in effect for our region for Tuesday and Tuesday evening.

These winds will push wind chill values down into the teens for Tuesday afternoon and evening.  Wear you gloves and cover your head.

A strong upper level disturbance is forecast to move through our region during the daylight hours Tuesday.  This is expected to bring snowfall to areas mainly north and east of Abilene from late morning through mid afternoon Christmas Day.

Around 1/2 inch of snow will be possible mostly north and east of Abilene.  Farther north nearer the Red River, 1 to 3 inches of snow may occur.

Those strong north winds will blow the snow around and reduce visibility.  So, be extra careful when traveling.  Make sure you have extra warm clothing with you in case you have car trouble.

Dry weather is expected for Tuesday night with a hard freeze for Wednesday morning.  Look for lows in the teens Wednesday with afternoon temperatures only in the 30s.
