With the pending closing of the Novice Independent School District, Texas Commissioner of Education Michael Williams has communicated with several groups involved with possible consolidation efforts.
The letter, addressed to the president of the Novice ISD Board of Trustees, urges the board to work to keep the district intact.
A consolidation election with the Coleman ISD is scheduled for Nov. 5.
A petition to detach part of the Novice school district property has been presented to the Jim Ned CISD, but no action has been taken on it.
In his letter, Commissioner Williams said a decision to detach prior to the consolidation election "would not fulfill the district's obligation to ensure the best possible outcome for every student."
