TxDOT preps for New Year's Eve with safe driving tips & drink recipes
Darah Waldrip from the Texas Department of Transportation visited KTXS on Friday and spoke about making safe choices while celebrating New Year's Eve.
TxDOT has partnered with award-winning mixologist Rob Pate to create signature non-alcoholic drinks for the holidays.
TxDOT has also launched the Holiday P.A.S.S. campaign. P.A.S.S stands for Person Appointed to Stay Sober.
The Holiday P.A.S.S. program encourages Texans to give the gift of a sober ride and make it easier for sober drivers to enjoy the festivities without drinking alcohol.
According to a TxDOT press release, between Dec. 1, 2011 and Jan. 1, 2012, there were 2,462 alcoholic related traffic crashes in Texas. Those resulted in 842 serious injuries and 78 fatalities.
During this upcoming holiday season, law enforcement officers throughout the state of Texas will be stepping up to crack down on drunk driving.
In addition, The Texas Department of Public Safety will increase DWI patrols from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1. The enhanced patrols are funded through a grant from TxDOT.
