Ways detailed how Abilenians can help Texas fertilizer plant explosion victims

ABILENE, Texas -

As of Thursday morning, as many as 15 people may be dead and over 160 injured after an explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, which is north of Waco.

As of about 9 a.m. Thursday, the Abilene Red Cross had not be asked to travel to the city of West. A representative said he knew the Red Cross locations in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area had been mobilized.

However, the Abilene Red Cross are taking donations at their location at 1610 North 2nd Street in Abilene.

You can also make monetary donations online at the national website, http://www.redcross.org.

The Hendrick Meek Blood Donation Center is taking blood donations. A representative said they have not received a call from Carter Blood Care, which serves the West area, but they do have a relationship with that organization and are prepared to send help.

The Hendrick Meek Blood Donation Center is located at the Cedar Mall Building at 1150 North 18th.They have extended hours on Thursday nights and will be open to 7 p.m.

Across town, Abilene Regional Medical Center said they have not received any patients from the explosion as of Thursday morning.
