Lawanda Taylor, who shot and killed her ex-boyfriend, allegedly in self-defense a month ago, got a call that her home was on fire Friday afternoon.
The Abilene Fire Department said they are still investigating the fire, but a relative of Lawanda’s told us this may have been in retaliation for the shooting in December.
The Fire Department responded to the fire in a front bedroom on Minda Street around 11:30 a.m. Police were called to help investigate the scene.
"All my stuff is gone, like the room that caught on fire, all my things were in there, like my high school diploma and everything. My photo albums, stuff you can't replace, but other than that we'll be alright," said Antouan Taylor, Lawanda’s nephew, who is currently living at the home.
Firefighters said there were signs of forced entry, but they aren't sure if it's from today or from the December incident.
Antouan said his aunt is going through a tough time.
"My aunt’s just trying to get her head right and just trying to move on with her life and raise her kids right now, but this is just another thing that's happened," Antouan said.
Lawanda is not currently staying at the home where the fire was.
Investigators are working to determine if this was arson.
