ABILENE, Texas -

A special Abilene City Council meeting will be held Monday May 20 for council members to canvass and certify the results of the May 11 election.

On that date Kyle McAlister won the Place 5 city council seat...but there was no clear winner in the Place 6 race.

Incumbent Kellie Miller was the top vote-getter with 44-percent.  Challenger Steve Savage finished with 43-percent.

Because no candidate got more than 50-percent in the three-way race,  the council will set a date for a runoff between Miller and Savage.

The council may also authorize the city manager to release a request for proposals, for development of a downtown hotel.

That has been on the wish list of city leaders for some time.
