Ralph Johnston, 61, of Abilene, was sentenced to 35 years in prison during January 2015 after pleading guilty to an aggravated sexual assault of a child charge. Johnston took a plea deal for assaulting a female under the age of 14 at a south side residence. He was arrested in September 2013 after police said Johnston contacted them after the victim went to a local hospital for an examination. Johnston later admitted he had sex with the victim knowing her age.

ABILENE, Texas -

A 59-year-old Abilene man was arrested Monday for felony aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Ralph Lane Johnston was charged after a female under the age of 14 alleged that she had been assaulted at a south side residence, police said.

Police said Johnston contacted a detective with the police department’s Special Victims Unit on Monday after the victim had gone to a local hospital for a sexual assault examination.

Johnston was interviewed at the Law Enforcement Center, police said, and the investigation revealed he had sexual intercourse with the victim between Sept. 12 and 13.

In addition, the investigation revealed Johnston was aware of the victim’s age, police said.

As a result, Johnston was arrested for 1st-Degree Felony Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. He was being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
