Abilene man to receive cable network award for battling prejudice, injustice

The USA Network and Suddenlink is scheduled to honor Abilene resident Petty Hunter for “his efforts to combat prejudice and discrimination,” according to a news release.
A hometown ceremony will be held next Friday at Abilene Christian University’s Performing Arts Center.
The event will recognize “Petty’s work spearheading positive social change in the areas of education, civic duty, economic and community development and elder care,” the news release said.
Hunter will be presented a $5,000 grant by the USA Network.
Abilene Mayor Norm Archibald will present Hunter with a proclamation at the event “stating August 2nd is Petty Hunter day in Abilene,” the release said.
Additionally, Marci Braden – district representative for Congressman Randy Neugebauer – will present Hunter with the Congressional flag.
