Abilene police officer resigns after being arrested in Fort Worth

ABILENE, Texas -

An Abilene police officer has resigned after being arrested in Fort Worth.

According to Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge, Cory Ray Valencia had been with the Abilene Police Department for about 15 months and was still a probationary officer.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram was the first to report that Valencia was allegedly seen drunk in downtown Fort Worth, and had fired his weapon into the air.

The incident happened about 2:00 a.m., Monday.

Valencia faces Class C and Class A misdemeanors.

Standridge said Valencia voluntarily resigned this morning.
