From Abilene Police Department spokesman George Spindler:

At about 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a discharge-of-firearm call in the vicinity of S. 7th and Palm Street. APD dispatch had been notified by a concerned resident reporting the sound of one gunshot being heard nearby. Officer Ed Cutbirth arrived at the scene and learned that the incident was probably related to a male victim whom reported a disturbance between the victim and a male subject moments earlier. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was parked and inside a vehicle at a nearby parking lot just talking on a cell phone when he was confronted by an unknown male subject. An argument ensued. The victim heard a loud pop as he drove away from the subject and he then saw the same subject run inside a residence in the 700 block of Palm Street. The investigation also confirmed that there was a bullet hole in the side of the victim’s vehicle. Officers were able to contact the involved subject at the involved residence and the subject was identified as the person involved in the verbal altercation with the victim. The subject was taken to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning and detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were summoned to assist. The investigation revealed that the victim’s vehicle had been struck by one bullet discharged from a handgun and that the involved subject had discharged the handgun. The investigation revealed that the bullet had traveled through the vehicle and stopped at the driver’s seat where the victim was sitting. The subject was arrested for Aggravated Assault (with a deadly weapon).

At about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, Officers Brandon Scott and Matt Allen responded to a check-welfare call at a residence in the 3100 block of S. 2nd Street. Child Protective Services personnel requested the assistance of APD at the residence. During the visit to the home, a female subject exited the home and became loudly belligerent by yelling, including profanities. Though warned on multiple occasions to stop the disorderly conduct, the subject continued the same pattern of behavior outdoors while her neighbors looked-on. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct. While placing the subject into custody, the subject bit the arresting officer’s arm, causing the skin on his arm to break. The subject was taken to county jail where she was booked for felony Assault on a Public Servant and for misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct.

At about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Officer William Allred responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4300 block of Buffalo Gap Road. A store loss prevention employee notified APD dispatch that a female subject was detained for alleged theft. Officer Allred contacted the involved parties and his investigation revealed that the female subject was observed by loss prevention selecting and concealing jeans. Loss prevention observed the subject walk out of the store without rendering payment for the jeans. The subject was contacted by an employee in their parking lot. Two pairs of stolen jeans valued at approximately $218.00 was recovered. A records check revealed that the subject had several prior convictions for theft. The subject was arrested for the enhanced offense of felony Theft based on previous convictions.
