The Abilene Reporter-News is now charging people who don’t subscribe to its print edition for digital access.
Currently, the newspaper’s print subscribers receive full access to website and mobile products.
Under changes announced Tuesday, people who do not subscribe to the print edition must pay $9.99 per month for digital access.
A digital-only subscription will allow unlimited access to the Reporter-News on the web, smartphone and tablets.
Non-subscribers can still read some digital content such as breaking news and alerts.
ARN Editor Doug Williamson said many newspapers across the country have rolled out similar programs and that the results indicate readers value quality content and are willing to pay for access.
