A 29-year-old Abilene woman faces child endangerment and injury to a child charges after her child reportedly tested positive for amphetamine.
According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, Maggie Burchett was arrested Sept. 10 for misdemeanor warrants before methamphetamine was found in her home.
“It is believed that the child tested positive for amphetamine, because of inhaling second-hand smoke from the drug,” a sheriff’s office news release said.
Results of a hair folicle test received Tuesday showed an eight-month-old boy tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, after he was found in a south side Abilene apartment where methamphetamine was present, the release said.
Child Protective Services took custody of the infant.
Burchett now faces additional charges of 3rd-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, endangering a child, and injury to a child.
