Helen Crawford
ABILENE, Texas -

An Abilene woman was indicted Thursday for allegedly kicking her young son while on probation for an injury to a child conviction.

According to court documents, 25-year-old Helen Crawford brought her 4-year-old son with her to visit her probation officer in August. She was sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudication (i.e. a form of probation) )in 2010 for a 2008 conviction on an injury to a child offense. A motion to revoke her probation has been filed.

Officers said they noticed her son’s eye was red and swollen. She allegedly told police he had run into a door because he was excited to see the probation officer. Officers said she allegedly later admitted to kicking him in an attempt to get him to stand up while he was trying to pick up a penny off the floor.

As of Thursday, Crawford remains in the Taylor County Jail with total bail set at $115,000.
