BROWNWOOD, Texas -

One of the biggest events in Brown County is happening this weekend. The 50th annual Brown County Rodeo starts tomorrow and will continue throughout Saturday.

Brownwood Chamber of Commerce tourism manager Sunni Modawell said the rodeo tends to rope in a lot of people and a lot of business.

"A lot of people will be eating out, spending money, and shopping. You have to have a new outfit to go to the rodeo dance so it has a good economic impact for the community." Modawell also said hotels are often booked thanks to the rodeo.

The rodeo dance is one of many activities for people to participate in at the rodeo. There will be bulls to ride and a parade to watch as well.

The Brown County Rodeo chairman Brent Moseley said it's thanks to the community that the rodeo event is happening at all.

"It just puts a smile on your face when you see all the spectators come out and the volunteers and the supporters giving money and time and effort," Moseley said.

Earlier this week, the Chamber of Commerce tried to revive Western Week, where they encouraged stores and businesses to decorate their storefronts. Brownwood City Hall won first place in that contest.

Brown County Rodeo begins tomorrow at 8p.m. The parade starts at the Brownwood Coliseum Saturday at 10a.m., and there will be a rodeo dance Saturday evening, also at the Brownwood Coliseum. Tickets are about $10 at the gate.
