BROWNWOOD, Texas -

Unless otherwise notified, organizers of Brownwood's 5th annual lighted Christmas parade is still on for Thursday evening, despite warnings of freezing weather.

"We hope everyone just bundles up," one of the organizers Laurie Wheelington said. "Forge the cold weather and have a good time."

Wheelington said the parade will happen unless there is a thunderstorm or unsafe weather conditions. She said there is no alternative date to reschedule the parade if it got canceled.

The parade is put on by Southside Church, which Wheelington and her co-organizer Eric Evans are part of.

Evans said he believed a lot of people will still come and watch the parade, no matter the type of weather. He said the rain may be a little hard to deal with but it's worth it to see kids' faces light up with excitement as they watch the floats go by. "Last year we had around 3,500, and this year we're expecting about 5,000 people."

This is not the first time they've dealt with a cold front during this event.

"The second year we did the parade, everyone was freezing as they waited for the floats but it was still great," Wheelington said.

Wheelington said the parade is scheduled for Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m. It will take place throughout downtown Brownwood, where about 100 floats will march down Carnegie and Adams Streets, behind the courthouse and by the Brownwood Coliseum. If you're interested in volunteering and helping out with the parade, call Southside Church at (325) 646-0844.
