ABILENE, Texas -

Starting Monday, the 'Click It or Ticket' campaign begins. It will take place until June 1. The campaign will be made possible with stepped up law enforcement.

Motorists who do not buckle up while in their cars will face court fines and costs of up to $200.

The campaign started in 2002. It has resulted in 3,962 fewer traffic deaths in Texas and 66,823 serious injuries have also been prevented, according to estimates of state officials. More $15 billion have been saved in related economic costs, the officials said.

"Within Abilene, we have thousands -- over 3,000 -- collisions every year," said Officer George Spindler with the Abilene Police Department. "If you're not protected, again, you could be seriously injured or hurt."
