ABILENE, Texas -

U.S. Congressman Mike Conaway (R) and State Representative Jim Keffer (R) visited the Eastland Memorial Hospital Friday morning to greet and congratulate 45 Ranger College nursing students on their orientation for training at the hospital.

Conaway told KTXS protecting rural hospitals, which often receive unpredictable funding, is crucial to providing efficient and convenient healthcare for all Texans.

“We're trying to protect them as best we can, make sure they've got the resources they need to be able to serve the community that they serve,” Conaway said. “The Medicare and Medicaid system are under stress from a standpoint of funding resources and rural hospitals in particular are more reliant on those payment systems than urban ad suburban hospitals right now.”
