A 19-year-old De Leon man died as a result of a single-vehicle accident Sunday on County Road 435, about 4.5 miles from De Leon.
Killed in the crash was Michael Aaron Mclearen, who was a passenger in a 1998 Dodge pickup driven by Zachary Durrall Ryon, 17, also of De Leon, according to a State Police release.
The accident on a highway with a speed limit of 55 mph reportedly occurred about 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
Mclearen was pronounced dead at 4:28 a.m. Sunday. His body was taken to Heartland Funeral Home in Comanche.
Another passenger in the vehicle – Haley Renea Johnson, 18, of De Leon – wasn’t injured.
Ryon, Mclearen and Johnson weren’t wearing seatbelts.
“Vehicle was traveling west on CR 435 at an unsafe speed,” the State Police release said. “The driver lost control while negotiating a large dip in the roadway. The vehicle (slid) into the north ditch, where it struck an embankment and rolled onto its left side and top.
“The vehicle came to rest on CR 435 and on its top. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.”
