(AP) - The defense is set to begin in the trial of a man charged with killing a bystander near a Southeast Texas courthouse in gunfire that left his daughter and her mother wounded.
Jefferson County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for 42-year-old Bartholomew Granger of Houston. He's charged with capital murder in last year's slaying of  Minnie Ray Sebolt of Deweyville outside a courthouse in downtown Beaumont.
Granger's lawyers deferred their opening statement when prosecutors began their case a week ago. The trial is resuming Monday in Galveston, about 75 miles from Beaumont, where it's been moved so jurors wouldn't have to walk by the crime scene each day.
Prosecutors say an angry Granger planned the March 2012 shooting in retaliation for testimony against him at a sexual misconduct trial.
